Dry Palm Leaves Used to Fill Potholes: Concerns Raised Over Road Repairs in Chavakachcheri

In a peculiar approach to road repairs, sections of the Meesalai-Allarai Road in the Chavakachcheri area are reportedly being fixed using unconventional methods.

According to reports, one-foot-deep potholes have been dug along certain parts of the road.

These potholes are then filled with dried palm leaves, allegedly sourced from fallen palm trees, and subsequently covered, raising serious concerns about the quality and durability of the repair work.

Former urban council member, G. Kishor, has criticized this method as inadequate and unprofessional.

He has called on the relevant authorities, particularly the Northern Province’s Road Development Authority (RDA) officers, to take immediate and appropriate action to ensure proper road maintenance.

The unconventional repair work has sparked criticism from residents and observers, who have urged the authorities to prioritize sustainable and long-lasting solutions for road infrastructure issues in the area.
