Female Doctor Sexually Assaulted in Anuradhapura – Court Orders 48-Hour Detention for Suspect


Suspect’s Sister and Another Individual Also Arrested
 
Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court has ordered that the suspect arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 32-year-old female doctor at the hostel of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital be detained for 48 hours for further investigations.
 
In his statement to the police, the suspect claimed that he had recently been released on bail after serving time in prison and was financially struggling. He alleged that he had gone to the doctor’s hostel intending to steal valuables but found only the female doctor present at the time.
 
Meanwhile, police confirmed that the suspect’s sister and another individual were arrested today. The arrests were made in the Kalnawa, Nidigampalaya area.
 
The suspect’s sister was taken into custody for allegedly aiding him in evading arrest. The other individual, a 27-year-old male, was arrested for possessing the stolen mobile phone belonging to the victim.
 
The 34-year-old suspect, a resident of Kalnawa, was apprehended two days ago in a jungle area where he was hiding. The arrest was carried out during a joint search operation by the Kalnawa Police and the Anuradhapura Special Task Force.
 
Police also recovered a knife that the suspect allegedly used to threaten the victim.
 
The suspect was produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court today, where the magistrate ordered his detention for 48 hours to facilitate further investigations.
