Protest in Jaffna Against Indian Fishermen’s Encroachments


A protest was staged in Jaffna yesterday (Thursday) by the Island Fishermen’s Organization, demanding urgent action to prevent encroachments by Indian fishermen into Sri Lankan waters.
 
Fishermen’s associations from various islands, including Mandaitivu, Neduntheevu (Delft), Nainatheevu, Eluvaitivu, Velanai, and Pungudutheevu, united to organize the demonstration.
 
The protest began in front of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Jaffna and proceeded as a march towards the Indian Consulate, eventually reaching the Northern Province Governor’s Office.
 
During the demonstration, representatives of the fishermen’s organizations submitted petitions to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Indian Consulate, and the Northern Province Governor’s Office, urging swift intervention to safeguard their livelihoods and marine resources.
