The Sri Lankan Fishermen Society has called for stringent measures to prevent Tamil Nadu fishermen from illegally entering Sri Lankan waters and engaging in activities such as Illuvai Madi fishing.

The 23 Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on October 10 near Neduntheevu for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing have been released on conditional bail.

Prime Minister Harini, addressing Parliament today, highlighted the progress in filling national list seats over recent years. Recalling past practices, she stated, “In 2020, the NPP secured one national list seat, and we promptly appointed the representative without delay. In 2024, we secured 18 national list seats and ensured all members were immediately appointed without any issues.”
