Supreme Court Sets April 1st for Hearing on Rejected Nomination Papers

The Supreme Court has scheduled April 1st for the hearing of 16 petitions filed against the rejection of nomination papers submitted for the upcoming Local Government elections.

The decision was made today by a three-member bench comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, Mahinda Samayawardhena, and Sampath Abeykoon, who reviewed the petitions and issued the relevant order.

During the proceedings, the Attorney General informed the court that the Election Commission is currently reviewing the reasons behind the rejection of these nominations. Additionally, the commission has requested more time to finalize its findings.

Taking this into account, the Supreme Court has directed that the petitions be taken up again on April 1st, during which further submissions regarding the Election Commission’s request will be considered.
