Two Arrested for Aiding Deshabandu Tennakoon’s Disappearance, Including Police Officer

A police constable and another individual have been arrested for allegedly assisting suspended Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon in evading arrest, the Police Media Division confirmed.

The arrests include a police officer serving in a special security division and a civilian from the Thalawathugoda area. According to police reports, the duo is accused of helping Tennakoon remain in hiding between February 17 and March 19, avoiding court proceedings.

Deshabandu Tennakoon had been issued an arrest warrant in connection with a shooting incident near a hotel in Weligama in 2023. After being on the run for 20 days, he finally surrendered to the court on March 19.
