Two Arrested for Assaulting Bus Driver and Conductor in Pullumalai

Two individuals were arrested for allegedly assaulting a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus driver and conductor in Pullumalai, Batticaloa, following an incident involving the harassment of a female passenger.

 

According to the Karadiyanaru Police, the incident occurred on Thursday night (20th) when the accused stopped the bus and confronted the driver and conductor over the alleged verbal harassment of a young woman traveling on the bus.

 

The bus, operating on the Badulla-Batticaloa route via Pullumalai, had departed Batticaloa at 5:30 PM and stopped at the Pullumalai bus stand to pick up passengers.

 

At this point, two men, who had reportedly been waiting at the bus stop, confronted the driver and conductor, engaging in a heated argument before launching a physical assault.

 

Upon receiving reports of the altercation, the police arrived at the scene and arrested the two suspects.

 

Initial investigations revealed that they were residents of the Pullumalai area.

 

Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals would be presented in court, while further investigations into the incident are ongoing under the supervision of the Karadiyanaru Police.
