Two police officers in Eravur have been immediately suspended from duty after allegedly assaulting a businessman who overtook their motorcycle, a senior police official confirmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (18th) at around 7:00 PM in the Mailambaveli area of Eravur.
According to reports, the two officers, who were off-duty and dressed in civilian clothing, were riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol.
When a businessman overtook their vehicle, they allegedly stopped him and launched a brutal attack using a helmet, leaving him seriously injured.
Following the assault, the two officers fled the scene. Authorities swiftly launched an investigation, and by Thursday (20th), both officers were suspended from duty.
The case has sparked public outrage, raising concerns about police misconduct and accountability. Investigations are ongoing.
