A tragic accident in the Akkaraipattu-Arasadi area claimed the lives of two young men when a motorcycle collided head-on with a heavy vehicle on the Akkaraipattu-Ampara main road.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening (20th), according to the Akkaraipattu Police.
The victims have been identified as Pavikas (25) and Thavarasa Vidushshan (24), both residents of Sairam Road, Alayadivembu.
Reports indicate that the two youth were traveling from Ampara towards their home in Alayadivembu on a motorcycle at around 3:00 PM when the accident occurred.
As they approached a bend in the Arasadi area, a heavy vehicle traveling towards Ampara from Akkaraipattu crashed into their motorcycle.
One of the riders died instantly at the scene, while the other sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Akkaraipattu Base Hospital’s intensive care unit.
However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Following a post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that the driver of the heavy vehicle has been arrested, and further investigations are being carried out by the Akkaraipattu Traffic Police.
